The Best Lego Designs

Although they are toys, Legos inspire amazing creations. LEGO artists use tiny plastic bricks to create everything from robots and architecture. Even the engineers at the company develop new components that allow builders to construct more complex models. Erik Varszegi, a Master Builder working for the Lego Group in Billund, Denmark, designed one such new component this year which is the curve of the slope. It allows Lego users to create more slanted shapes while staying within the strict color palette of the company. The slopes can be used to create more dynamic shapes, like an incline staircase.

While certain Lego designs are the creations of professional designers, other designs are the result of the wildly popular Lego Ideas set-design program. The Ideas line lets anyone create a set and get it produced, offering fame and a percent of sales to designers who is able to convince 10,000 fellow designers that their creation is worthy enough to be made into a production. It’s no surprise that most elaborate and impressive sets typically garner the most attention particularly when they feature iconic scenes or characters from movies, TV shows or from real life.

Among the best Lego designs are two space-age icons which include the NASA space shuttle Discovery and an exact replica of the Hubble Telescope. Each telescope comes with a plaque of display and a miniature Lego version of its inventor. Other impressive models are frames of a rainbow, a steampunk dragon as well as a replica of the Palace of Westminster.
